“Poppa Funk & The Night Tripper: A Tribute To Art Neville & Dr. John” will be making its way down the New Orleans for Jazz Fest at the Fillmore, Oct. 9. The performance billed as a show “to heroes, by heroes” debuted at Denver Comes Alive in Jan. 2020, and is now, rightfully, making its way home.

“Poppa Funk & The Night Tripper: A Tribute To Art Neville & Dr. John” is comprised of artists who knew the New Orleans legends, who died in 2019, personally and some who were directly influenced by them.

George Porter Jr. a collaborator in The Meters and longtime friend of Neville, as well as Art’s son, guitarist Ian Neville of Dumpstaphunk, and his nephew Ivan Neville also a member of Dumpstaphunk will all be in the band. Jon Cleary, who toured extensively with Dr. John during his later years and held a close friendship with him up until his death will be joining them.

Multi-instrumentalist Tony Hall also of Dumpstaphunk, drummer Nikki Glaspie of The Nth Power and Maceo Parker, beloved New Orleans trombonist Big Sam, drummer Alvin Ford Jr. of Pretty Lights Live, and the newest addition to the crew, Widespread Panic keyboardist JoJo Hermann will also add to the tribute.

Additionally, a horn section featuring Trey Anastasio Band’s Natalie Cressman on trombone and Jennifer Hartswick on trumpet alongside mystifying saxophonist Skerik will complete this exemplary lineup.
