Dark Star Orchestra played and provided a free Livestream of their set at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colo., July 5. The acclaimed Grateful Dead cover band played an array of covers from the Dead’s iconic discography.
They opened with “China Cat Sunflower” into “I Know You Rider” while the sun was high in the sky. Then, after nearly an hour, the warmed-up band did something unique; Dark Star Orchestra welcomed former guitarist John Kadlecik on stage for “Cumberland Blues.” Kadlecik hadn’t performed with Dark Star Orchestra since he left the band in Dec. 2009 to concentrate his time on Furthur.
After “Cumberland Blues” closed, current guitarist Jeff Mattson returned for the rest of the show and kicked off with “Box Of Rain.” Soon after, Lisa Mackey took the helm to cover Loretta Lynn’s “You Ain’t Woman Enough (To Take My Man).”
As the night went on and the night fell over Red Rocks, Dark Star Orchestra slowed it down. They closed their second set with “Death Don’t Have No Mercy” into “Alligator” and encored with “Viola Lee Blues.”

July 8, 2021 at 9:46 pmIt is really odd you distorted this picture backwards, or used a completely different picture than this night at Red Rocks. YOU are the problem with the internet. That being said. I will listen and I will re live the memory.

BRING BACK FURTHUR
July 7, 2021 at 6:00 pmNice to finally see some (brief) respect and and nod to JK, the most talented and hardest working member of the post GD universe. Fucking shame what “retired” Phil & $happy did to him and the rest of us with the demise of Furthur. Now we suffer with Dead & Slow. Ponderous…
