Pigeons Playing Ping Pong jammed at the Westville Music Bowl in New Haven, Conn., this past Saturday, June 26, 2021. The Baltimore-born quartet has been touring very consistently since its inception in ’09 – having played up to 200 shows in a single year. Despite that impressive fact, this was the first time the band played the Westville Music Bowl.

The stadium venue had been completed for a full year before its ribbon-cutting ceremony in late April 2021. Now wide open, the stadium is welcoming many great bands with open arms. Pigeons Playing Ping, being one of the first, did their part by playing a superb show.

They opened with “Henrietta” then “Lost in Line” into “Somethin’ For Ya.” By that point, the band was flowing with funk and jams that reverberated upwards and outwards to open ears and open air.

During their second set, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong laid down “Sunny Day.” As the melody morphed into Jimi Hendrix’s “Fire,” they welcomed a highly anticipated act on stage: Lotus’ new guitarist Tim Palmieri. Palmieri jammed to the classic track with the seasoned funk band and left them close with “Kiwi” into “Burning Up My Time.”

Pigeons Playing Ping Pong jammed out with members of TAUK at Mountain Music Festival in Minden, W.Va.
