Continuing their triumphant return to Red Rocks, Widespread Panic played two wall-to-wall sets at the historic venue on June 26, including the first version of Black Sabbath’s “Sweet Leaf” and Jimi Hendrix’s “Machine Gun” since 2016.
Highlights from the band’s first frame included an opening “Holden Oversoul,” followed by the always-rocking “Ain’t Life Grand.”
The band also embraced their cowboy ethos with mid-set western favorites like “Walkin’ (For Your Love” and “Good Morning Little Schoolgirl.” The band later closed set one with a full-venue sing-along to their first “Tall Boy” since the onset of the pandemic.
Set two kicked off with a high-energy “Greta,” before throttling back to “Mercy” and slowly cranking up to “Big Wooly Mammoth” and “Bowlegged Woman.”
“Driving Song”> “Ride Me High”> “Driving Song” offered one of the evening’s best segues, before the aforementioned “Sweet Leaf” made its first onstage appearance since 10/22/2016 (131 shows).
“Four Cornered Room” also gave way to a Hendrix-infused “Machine Gun” – LTP 6/30/2016, 156 shows.
The show closed with “Conrad” and a two-part “Degenerate”/”Papa’s Home” encore.
Widespread Panic will close their Red Rocks run tonight – June 27.
