Sir Paul McCartney recently released a music video for “Slidin’,” the seventh track off his 2020 album McCartney III. The Jack McCoy-directed video was created in association Surfrider Foundation Australia in observance of International Surfing Day, and features footage of professional surfer Craig Anderson.
According to McCartney’s December 2020 chat with NME, “Slidin’” originated from a jam he engaged in with his band while soundchecking for a show in Dusseldorf, Germany. He originally intended to release the song on 2018’s Egypt Station but it was shelved after McCartney decided to workshop it more. The title of the song was pulled from McCartney’s experience following the Winter Olympics when announcers had kept using the word “sliding” for events such as skiing and snowboarding.
Surfrider Foundation Australia is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting Australia’s waves and beaches through education, research, activism, and conservation. It was founded in 1991 in response to the issues regarding poor water quality on Australia’s east coast.
