To the delight of Deadheads everywhere, Dead & Company have announced that they will hit the road this summer/fall performing 31 shows from mid-August to late-October.

Highlights include a return to Citi Field in New York (Aug. 20), a two night stop at Wrigley Field in Chicago (Sept. 17 and 18), and a three-night Halloween run at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles (Oct. 29-31).

“WHAT A LONG STRANGE TRIP IT’S BEEN…” the band wrote via social media. “We are so excited to see you out on the road this year!”

Thinking back to the early days of the pandemic, Dead & Company announced in April 2020 that they would cancel their touring plans indefinitely, making their January 2020 Playing in the Sand event their last pre-pandemic gigs.

“The well-being and safety of the Deadhead community, venue workers and our touring family is of the utmost importance to us,” the band wrote at the time of the cancelation. “We also want to provide you, the fans who’ve been hit hard financially during this difficult time with your money back.”

During the pandemic, the D&C remained fairly offline – albeit, Bob Weir and his Wolf Bros did a number of crowdless livestream gigs, and rhythm devil Bill Kreutzmann recently celebrated his birthday with his star-studded Grateful Mahalo broadcast.

Fans began to lose hope for a 2021 tour when John Mayer was quoted on his pal Andy Cohen’s Radio Andy program, saying, “Look, there’s no reason to sort of be veiled about. If we can [tour] we definitely will…It starts looking like ’22 is the only way you can really start booking stuff.”

However, the success of the band’s Playing in the Sand 2022 announcement – including a lightning-speed sell-out of tickets and the addition of a second weekend – was a light at the end of the tunnel.

According to organizers, tickets for these newly announced dates “will go on sale to the general public beginning Friday, May 21 at Noon local venue time through Ticketmaster.”
