The FreshGrass Festival has announced the lineup for its September event at MASS MoCA (the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art) in North Adams, Mass., which will take place Sept. 24-26. Dispatch (who will perform an acoustic set), Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue and Béla Fleck’s My Bluegrass Heart project will headline the event.
Fleck’s My Bluegrass Heart will feature Michael Cleveland, Sierra Hull, Justin Moses, Mark Schatz and Bryan Sutton. Other artists that will appear at the event include Sam Bush, Sarah Jarosz, Watkins Family Hour and more. In addition, the Steep Canyon Rangers will serve as the festival’s artist in residence.
A description of the event detailed additional activities present at the festival. “Berklee College of Music’s American Roots Music Program returns with workshops led by bluegrass veterans on the subjects of songwriting, producing, and music marketing. FreshGrass-owned No Depression — the quarterly journal for roots music and online roots music authority — sets up an eponymous stage in the festival’s inner courtyard and Compass Records brings its pop-up record store back to the center of the festival.”
FreshGrass’s festival at MASS MoCA is one of two FreshGrass events set for the fall of 2021. The other will occur Oct. 1-2 in Bentonville, Ark., and will be headlined by Billy Strings, Old Crow Medicine Show and Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue.
