On Saturday, Apr. 24, Bob Weir & Wolf Bros performed a livestreamed concert at Weir’s TRI Studios in San Rafael, Calif. The show was streamed on FANS.live.
Weir was joined by bassist Don Was, drummer Jay Lane, keyboardist Jeff Chimenti and pedal-steel guitarist Greg Leisz. Later in the show, the quintet was joined by the Wolf Pack string and horn section.
The band opened with the Grateful Dead classic “Truckin’,” followed by “Bertha.” Weir then donned an acoustic guitar for “Only a River” before inviting guitarist Matt Michna to the stage for a sit-in on “Ramble On Rose.” Michna is a student at Berklee College of Music that Weir has been mentoring for a number of years. Next came “Shade of Grey” and “West L.A. Fadeaway.” The band then delivered a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Desolation Row” before closing the set with “Cassidy.”
Set two was highlighted by a sequence during which the Wolf Pack string and horn section took the stage, along with Michna’s return. The supplemented band performed “Eyes of the World,” which melted into the debut of “Big Sandy Creek.” The new tune features lyrics from Robert Hunter; Michna himself wrote the music.
“Big Sandy Creek” the morphed into Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On.” The last time Bob Weir performed the song was in September of 1988 at Madison Square Garden, when the Dead were joined by Hall & Oates. The cover then shifted briefly back into “Eyes.”
After the medley, the band continued to explore during “The Other One,” before cooling down with “Stella Blue.” The second frame closed with “Going Down the Road Feelin’ Bad.” Weir and company opted for a fitting “One More Saturday Night” to close out the evening.

Each show has held such lovely, beautiful musical surprises.

April 25, 2021 at 4:24 pmI just heard on tales from… that you can still (pay of course) and restream this until tomorrow, perhaps you can rip it somehow from that. But certainly costly and involved.

April 25, 2021 at 2:53 pmAnyone know if this specifically, or TRI shows are available for download, or purchase. Love this set list, new Hunter tune, new cover breakout, and a great list besides that. (Shade of Grey, Jack, Desolation etc. etc. etc.)
