Australian psych-rockers King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have announced their 17th studio record, L.W. The new album is a direct follow-up to their previous studio effort K.G. (released in November of 2020), and it marks their third record centered around the exploration of microtonal tunings (the first was 2017’s Flying Microtonal Banana, the second was the aforementioned K.G.). The album is due out Feb. 26.

In addition to the album announcement, the band also shared a new single “Pleura,” along with a video. The footage consists of a live performance of the track filmed in the band’s studio. According to a press release, it was filmed “just last night” (Feb. 17). The video was directed by John Angus Stewart, who was behind the camera for the band’s 2020 concert film Chunky Shrapnel.

“I think a true document of live music shouldn’t rely entirely on editing,” Stewart said via press release. “There is something that happens with the way we perceive images, if something ‘live’ is too produced, your mind sort of loses interest. With this format, we wanted to leave the editing up to the viewer. The decision of who to look at, and at what time determines each individual viewing experience. With each watch your experience will be completely different, which mirrors Gizzard’s experience playing the song live. The process is the same, yet the result is different.”
