Black Pumas made a stylish appearance on NPR’s ongoing Tiny Desk (Home) Concert series, giving fans a socially-distant four-song set.
The performance included standout tracks from the band’s self-titled debut – namely, “Red Rover” “Fire” “OCT 33” and “Colors.”
“It all happened organically,” guitarist-producer Adrian Quesada told Relix of the band’s origins. “A couple studio sessions in, [singer Eric Burton] started playing me his songs. I’d seen some videos of him, and I liked that he was playing guitar and singing. I thought, ‘It’s not like your typical soul or funk frontman.’ He had a vibe of someone like Neil Young. When we got about eight or nine songs into it, we were like, ‘OK, this is cohesive. Maybe we should make this an official thing.’”
