“It all started in 1977.”

That phrase arrives early in the Nov. 14 “Save Tip’s Benefit,” as fans began a three-plus hour journey into the past of a New Orleans institution.

A performance of “Bald Head” by Professor Longhair opened the show, followed by fellow Crescent City icon Dr. John, rising star Billy Strings, NOLA favorites The Radiators (with the late great Gregg Allman sitting in), funk favorites Dumpstaphunk and many many more.

Phish’s Mike Gordon recorded a testimonial to discuss New Orleans as a “musical mecca” and Jimmy Buffet appeared to applaud the “wonderful, historic” venue and perform “Fortune Teller,” as made famous by Allen Toussaint.
