Jack White appeared on Saturday Night Live this weekend, performing his own “Lazarus” as well as a medley of “Don’t Hurt Yourself,” “Ball and Biscuit” and Blind Willie Johnson’s “Jesus Is Coming Soon.”
The lauded guitarist also nodded to the recent loss of Eddie Van Halen, by playing a very special guitar.
“i thought it could be a nice gesture for me to use this blue eddie van halen model guitar for one of the songs tonight on SNL,” White wrote ahead of the performance, in his signature all-lowercase style. “the guitar was designed by eddie (with a few customizations i had added). eddie was very kind to me and saw to it that this guitar was made for me to my specs. i wont even insult the man’s talent by trying to play one of his songs tonight. thanks again eddie for this guitar and rest in peace sir.”
White was enlisted to perform on SNL last minute, replacing country star Morgan Wallen, who was dropped from the lineup for violating the show’s COVID-19 protocols.
