On Thursday, Oct. 1, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead kicked off their three-night livestream run, marking their first show in seven months, the debut of The Relix Channel on Twitch as well as the passing of what would have been LOCKN’ 2020. Last night, Oct. 2, the band returned for a second livestreamed show on Twitch. (Both livestreams were presented by Dayglo and Dogfish Head.)

The show began with a performance of “Peggy-O.” The band then dropped into “The Music Never Stopped,” which featured playful interplay between guitarists Tom Hamilton and Scott Metzger. As the jam began to fade, the band pivoted to a segue into the beloved “Eyes of the World,” which also received a heavy dose of improv.

The first set, which contained just six songs, rolled along with a rollicking take on “Dancin’ in the Streets.” The band closed out the frame with a pairing of “Brown Eyed Women” and “Uncle John’s Band.”

While JRAD often shirks the Grateful Dead’s normal combinations of songs (see last night’s “Help on the Way” > “Slipknot!” > “Playing in the Band”), they began the second set with a traditional pairing of “Lost Sailor” > “Saint of Circumstance.” After a performance of “Candyman,” the band dropped into a gorgeous rendition of “Throwing Stones,” a song which has become one of their most beloved jam vehicles over the past few years. To close out the two nights on Twitch, JRAD delivered performances of two Dead classics: “Fire on the Mountain” and a segue into a triumphant “Bertha.”

The band will perform another livestream tonight, Oct. 3; rather than streaming on Twitch, this one will be a pay-what-you-want stream on FANS.live (starting at $1), presented by Dogfish Head. Subscribe to Relix’s Twitch channel here.
