On Oct. 1, Holly Bowling found her way to Wyoming’s scenic Beartooth Mountains for her latest chapter of her Wilderness Sessions, performing a full set of Grateful Dead and Phish tunes (as evidenced by the opening pairing of “The Wheel”> “Divided Sky”).
Explains Bowling, “From Idaho, we headed Northeast to the Montana-Wyoming border. Where the salt flats seemed desolate and alien and the high desert of Bruneau Canyon was vast and austere, the Beartooth range felt wild and rugged and alive. After a week of traveling, camping, and filming in arid and inhospitable surroundings, that included relentless sun, corrosive salt, and tarantulas, entering the mountains was a relief. It’s a place I had never been to before, but it felt like coming home.”
And while the keyboardist – who just announced she is expecting – is offering these shows for free, she encourages fans to drop her a tip – anyone who donates more than $10 will receive a special postcard corresponding to each location. She’s also created a new line of merch for the unique run.
