To stoke excitement for the impending reissue of Prince’s 1987 double album Sign O’ The Times, the Purple One’s estate has shared the previously unheard track “I Need A Man.”

“‘I Need A Man’ was originally recorded for Prince’s protege act, The Hookers (an early version of Vanity 6), in August 1981,” reads an official description. “It was completely redone for Bonnie [Raitt], with an updated sound that included live drums, Fairlight and Mirage synths, as well as sax and trumpet. It was the first of four songs Prince recorded for her, however, the envisioned collaboration didn’t ultimately materialize and Prince’s re-tracked version of ‘Need A Man’ was returned to the vault and has remained unreleased until today.”

The new reissue – out Sept. 25 – will include 63 previously unreleased tracks and a 2-plus-hour concert video.

The reissue will also come in a Super Deluxe Edition, Deluxe Edition and a remastered album. According to a press release, “the Super Deluxe Edition brings fans all the audio material that Prince officially released in 1987, as well as 45 previously unissued studio songs recorded between May 1979 and July 1987, and a complete live audio performance from the June 20, 1987 stop on the Sign O’ The Times Tour at Stadium Galgenwaard in Utrecht, The Netherlands.”
