Trey Anastasio Band has announced that they will release a new live album, titled Burn It Down, this Friday, Sept. 18. The album was produced by Vance Powell, who has worked with Phish, Chris Stapleton, Jack White and many others. The recordings that make up the record come from TAB’s January 2020 tour.
“Over the past few years there’s been an indescribable momentum with TAB,” said Anastasio via press release. “The band seems to get tighter with each successive tour. This past January, we were firing on all cylinders, and it was reflected in the faces of the people coming to the shows. I could feel it and see it every single night — the intensity of the dancing, the smiles on people’s faces, the feeling of unity.”
“So immediately after that tour, I put plans in motion to begin a TAB album in the spring,” he continued. “The pandemic changed those plans, and when everything was cancelled, I began working at home on what would later become Lonely Trip. Meanwhile, my friend Vance Powell, who produced this new TAB album, called and told me there was already enough great material on tape from the January tour to make the best TAB album ever, and make it a live album. So he started sending me mixes. I loved them. We both agreed that ‘Burn It Down,’ a line from the song ‘Set Your Soul Free,’ was the perfect title, because it encapsulated exactly what had been happening onstage every night.”
“Producing and mixing Burn It Down has been absolutely one of my favorite projects ever,” added Powell. “The band is slamming!”
“When I listen to this album, it reminds me how much I miss playing live music,” Anastasio concluded. “In some ways, it’s hard for me to listen for that reason. I can’t wait to experience this again. I miss it so much.”
The entirety of Burn It Down will premiere in its entirety on SiriusXM’s Phish Radio on Sept. 17 (tomorrow) at 9 p.m. ET. Anastasio will also perform tomorrow night as part of SummerStage Jubilee.

September 17, 2020 at 7:31 pmWhy such negativity, GOD and DEVIL? Music has been a great gift since the dawn of civilization. It can provide comfort and inspiration during difficult times. It can unite people. (We are the World). It can change lives. I know it changed mine for the better. Trey and others are doing what they love, and sharing it with others, just as the Grateful Dead did when they became my favorite band in my late teen years in the 70’s. Musicians have touched so many lives in a positive way. How many lives have you touched? Abe Lincoln said, Whatever you do, be good at it. That means whether you’re a musician, or a doctor, or a school lunch monitor. There’s too much hate out there, especially on social media. Don’t be a hater. Choose your own music to listen to. Let others work on their thing, and try to be the best YOU that you can be. And keep the music coming, EVERYONE. Let’s be nice to each other. Thanks.

September 17, 2020 at 12:22 pmI agree with GOD. TAB, like FISH, need to go away for good. Any who knew James Gandolfini isn’t dead but “hiding out in a rock ‘n roll band” ?

September 17, 2020 at 11:38 am“BURN IT DOWN” — in times like these — can also mean condoning destroying property and lives; IT also gives a strong POSITIVE signal to those young SIMPLETONs doing damage to the places YOU get your coffee, bruh == INSTEAD OF FOCUSING THAT BURN ON THE RIGHT EFFIGY TO FLAME —- hint: read your dollar bill, genius.
ACTIONS = CONSEQUENCES
THIS IS THE MOST NEGATIVE THING TO EVER COME OUT OF THIS GUY’S SOUTH MOUTH. The title of the record is not even the name of the song, SO THIS IS A HUGE STRETCH TO MAKE US BELIEVE THIS HAS NO NEGATIVE IMPACT ON COMMUNITIES TRYING TO REBUILD, VS it’s true intention of encouraging more negative empowerment to negators: TREY IS CONDONING HATRED WITH THIS TITLE.
