As a preview of the new GarciaLive 14 LP, Rolling Stone has previewed Jerry Garcia and John Kahn’s acoustic take on Bob Dylan’s “When I Paint My Masterpiece.”
The release – out July 24 – will spotlight Garcia and Kahn’s January 27, 1986 performance at The Ritz in New York City.
Reads the official description, “There was always palpable energy to Garcia’s performances in the Big Apple and this Monday night was no exception. Captured at the mid-way point in their East Coast run, Garcia & Kahn delight a spellbound audience with a mix of Grateful Dead favorites, folk standard, and other staples from Garcia’s songbook. The duo’s performance is laid-back yet impassioned with Garcia’s mastery as a storyteller on full display.”
Liner notes for the release were also penned by Billy Strings.

July 6, 2020 at 8:21 pmAnybody remember how f’ing cold it was in NYC that night? After the show, I walked from the Ritz up to Grand Central for Metro North train. Guess I hadn’t heard about the subway. Jerry came through some tough days, but he never stop expressing himself, and could do so most sweetly. Vocals here sound good for ’86.
