“This is my first post in two years, and it is clearly time to start participating again,” reads a new statement by the often-elusive producer Pretty Lights aka Derek Vincent Smith.
The multi-faceted artist – who has performed marquee slots at major festivals like Bonnaroo, Electric Forest, Ultra, Suwannee Hulaween and more – broke his silence to “stand in complete solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement ” and “stand with all the humans raising their voices for desperately needed change in the world.” (Pretty Lights’ last live shows were in 2018, and his last single “Rainbows and Waterfalls” dropped in 2017.)
In turn, Pretty Lights also donated $10,000 to be split among over 70 community bail funds, mutual aid funds and racial justice organizers nationwide.
He closes his statement with, “Humanity is a vine and every bud deserves to flower and soak in the sunshine.”

June 6, 2020 at 7:33 amWhile your comment most likely has some truth to it, explain the videos ive seen on TV of Black people running out of stores with sneakers, Jean’s, purses and big TV’S. I’m sure all the crayons in the box have taken advantage of the situation. My point is each of us needs to look within ourselves and pull out our God given ability to love each other as we love ourselves. And to forgive each other, because it’s going to take time to change learned bad habits.
