Canadian octet Busty and the Bass have released a new song, “Kids.” The band also released a mini-documentary that highlights “the band’s commitment to music education.”

The group, who “met studying in the jazz program at Montreal’s McGill University, are advocates for strong musical and cultural education in schools,” read a press release. “While on tour they make a point of stopping at schools in each market to conduct music workshops and assemblies with students ranging from elementary to high school age.”

“For the past few years through dozens of school visits, the band and I have been trying to engage students musically within the simplest context of social play,” said vocalist/alto sax player Nick Ferraro via press release. “If the arts teach children that the act of creating is enough in its own right, then intuitively they will feel like they can be enough in their own right. I have so much confidence and hope for how music education can look systemically in the near future.”
