Grateful Dead HQ debuted their first Shakedown Stream broadcast on Friday, and fans were treated to a special introduction by Rhythm Devil Mickey Hart himself.
“One of the things we’ve all been missing most in these strange times is the magic that happens when we gather to celebrate a shared love of music,” Hart says from his home, after lowering his quarantine bandana.
Introducing the band’s 7/4/89 show in Buffalo, NY, Hart recalls, “The whole band was in great shape and high spirits. We achieved liftoff with the aid of a great enthusiastic East Coast audience. Of course, the fact that we were playing on the Fourth of July added an extra zing as we always loved celebrating our independence.”

April 13, 2020 at 5:17 amMy first Dead show…my wife and I found some blotter in the lot. We never did it before and didn’t give the first hit a chance to kick in. We proceeded to take a total of 3.5 hits each. The fact we made it back to our room in downtown Buffalo after the show was a miracle. She never went to another Dead show as she said nothing could ever top that.
