After using some wine glasses to punctuate his quarantine composition “The World Is My Home,” Trey Anastasio continued the DIY vibe on a new version of “The Silver Light,” using toilet paper rolls and a bottle of hand sanitizer to add some percussion.
“‘The Silver Light’ isn’t officially a new song,” the Phish guitarist notes. “TAB was booked to record it for an album starting Mid March. Sadly, we had to cancel, so here is an acoustic guitar, mouth drum, Toilet Paper and Purell version.”
Trey Anastasio Band has played “The Silver Light” twice, debuting it on 1/11/20 and performing it once again on 1/28/20.
In a message alongside the video, Anastasio also name-drops a couple of medical workers on the front lines of the COVID-19 crisis: a friend – Michael Stern – as well as a fan – Mark Curato.
There’s also a cameo by Anastasio’s two cats Joey and Bowie.

Good morning everyone!
I hope that you, your Families and loved ones are safe today. I woke up early to the sound the sirens, as I usually do here in the City lately. Like everyone else, I can’t stop thinking about the doctors and nurses who are heading into the hospital. How do they do this? What is it really like?
I want to personally thank two ER doctors here in NY, and hopefully by mentioning their names it might personalize this, and ultimately draw attention to all of the doctors and nurses fighting this battle everyday around the world.
My friend Michael Stern is at Weill Cornell Hospital. I’ve know[n] Michael’s wife Elizabeth Barrett, since childhood. Anytime one of my family members has needed to go to the Hospital over the years, Michael has always checked up and taken great care of them, for which I’m eternally grateful. He’s an amazing guy, and I send my deep love to him out there today, working so hard, putting himself and his family at risk.
The second is Mark Curato. Sue and I met Mark on the street just as lockdown was starting. Mark told me that he’s been a fan and member of our Phish community for 26 years, and sent me an email the next day expressing his deep concern about what he was about to face in the coming weeks. I want to wish both Mark and Michael the best today. We are all filled with gratitude to you and to all the doctors and nurses who’s names we don’t know, all over the planet. Thank you all.
The Silver Light isn’t officially a new song. TAB was booked to record it for an album starting Mid March. Sadly, we had to cancel, so here is an acoustic guitar, mouth drum, Toilet Paper and Purell version. New School quarantine style, making music from TP and Purell!
The two Cat Tails are superstars Joey and Bowie.
