On Feb. 26, the 33rd Annual Tibet House U.S. Benefit Concert was held at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Hosted by Philip Glass, the event included performances by Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, Sandra Oh, Phoebe Bridgers, Margo Price, Matt Berninger, Bettye LaVette, Laurie Anderson, Jesse Paris Smith, Rubin Kodheli, Tenzin Choegyal, the Scorchio Quartet and the Resistance Revival Chorus.

The evening featured Laurie Anderson, Rubin Kodheli, Jesse Paris Smith and Tenzin Choegyal performing songs from Anderson, Choegyal and Kodheli’s recent album Songs from the Bardo.

Matt Berninger and Phoebe Bridgers performed their duet “Walking on a String,” before Bridgers and the Scorchio Quarter accompanied Berninger performed “Garden Song,” a new single from the National frontman.

After another song from Tenzin Choegyal, Bettye LaVette took the stage and performed a trio of songs: “The Times They Are A Changin’,” “Isn’t It a Pity” and “They Call It Love.” Later, Sandra Oh read Allen Ginsberg’s poem “When The Light Appears,” accompanied by Philip Glass on piano. Then Margo Price, too, performed three songs: “Better Than Nothin’,” “I’d Die for You” and “All American Made.”

The evening closed with sets from Iggy Pop and Patti Smith. The former performed “We Are the People” and “I Wanna Be Your Dog” – according to a press release, “Pop got the crowd on their feet and turned Carnegie Hall into a punk rock concert.”

Patti Smith closed down the evening with “About a Boy,” “Don’t Say Nothin'” and “People Have the Power.”

After the music portion of the event, guests and performers celebrated the evening with a post-concert gala at Ziegfeld Ballroom. Proceeds from the show supported the work of Tibet House US, “as they forge ahead with their mission to protect, preserve and empower the unique Tibetan culture.” (Quote via press release.)
