Robby Krieger, legendary The Doors guitarist and songwriter, has announced his first solo record in a decade, titles The Ritual Begins At Sundown. The album is set for a April 24 release. Ahead of the album, Krieger has shared the first single, titled “The Drift.”

This release will be the ninth solo record for the guitarist. For this album, he worked with long-tim writing partner and co-producer Arthur Barrow, who also worked Frank Zappa, Joe Cocker and others. The album also features additional Zappa alumni including Jock Ellis (Trombone), Sal Marquez (Trumpet) and Tommy Mars (Keys). “I was hanging out with my buddy Arthur Barrow and we had some songs we had been fooling around with then we got some other friends involved,” said Krieger in a press release.

On the writing process for the album, Krieger had this to say: “I kinda write for myself, I don’t expect to have any more hits like ‘Light My Fire,’ [laughs] but you never know.”

Krieger recently reunited with fellow Doors member John Densmore for a performance at the Homeward Bound Concert in LA; read our recap of that show here.
