On Jan. 21, Brandi Carlile closed her six-night Ryman Auditorium residency in Nashville with a batch of special guests – like Courtney Barnett and Ruby Amanfu – as well as a few unexpected covers.

“I cannot believe that it has come to an end,” Carlile wrote afterwards via Instagram “Thank you @theryman, the twins, and my incredible band! Thank you to all the fans who came to church with us. I will never forget the way it felt to share that sacred space with you all.”

Highlights from the Tuesday-night gig included Barnett and Carlile covering “Everything Is Free” by Gillian Welch, the same tune she performed with Carlile the evening before.

Later, Carlile used her five-song encore to offer up originals, like “Beginning To Feel The Years” as well as the ’80s hit “Like A Prayer.”

“We have a special treat for you now. Shit’s about to get weird,” Carlile joked before welcoming Nashville’s own Amanfu for the Madonna favorite, complete with a gospel choir made up of Jordan Hamlin, Butterfly Boucher and Katie Herzig.

Carlile followed that up with her show-stopping sing-along cover “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” and brought her residency to a close with “Party of One” and a soul-stirring “Amazing Grace.”
