After opening their weekend getaway with “Not Fade Away,” Dead & Company brought their Playing in the Sand event full circle on Sunday night, closing their three shows with yet another version of the Buddy Holly favorite.
Earlier in the evening, the band wasted no time, dipping into a “Playing in the Band”> “Uncle John’s Band”> “Dark Star (verse two)”> “Playing in the Band (Reprise)”> “They Love Each Other” segment to open the show.
The first half later closed with a sing-along of “Terrapin Station,” and before long the band were initiating their final set of the weekend.
D&C jammed through their entire second frame, going from a classic “Scarlet”> “Fire” pairing into “He’s Gone” and another time-honored one-two punch, “China”> “Rider.”
The band then went deep on a “Drums”> “Keys/Bass” jam before eventually closing their final set with “U.S. Blues,” nodding to their homeland and soon-to-be destination.
“Ripple” acted as Dead & Company’s final Mexican performance, followed by the aforementioned “Not Fade Away,” bringing their sold-out crowd to a dancing frenzy.

January 20, 2020 at 9:07 pmNo mention of the end of set one – “We’ll be back in just a little bit and GO NINERS!” Or the fact every time the SF 49ers scored they posted it on the big screens at the show? I’m surprised Weir didn’t push the show back 5 hours to watch the game!!
