Greensky Bluegrass offered their 2019-2020 New Year’s run in Milwaukee, Wisc. this year, with three nights at the Riverside Theater.

The run culminated on Dec. 31, as the jamgrass quintet performed three full sets, including a nod to the classic sitcom Laverne & Shirley.

Set one was bookended by originals “Past My Prime” and “All Four,” whereas set two was highlighted by a massive “Run or Die” jam containing a full segue in and out of Pink Floyd’s “Run Like Hell.”

Set two also featured a closing jam of “Jaywalking”> “After Midnight,” in anticipation of the clock striking 12.

The band officially rang in the new year in the outset of set three with a massive “Courage For The Road” sandwich, which dipped in and out of both “Follow Me Down to the Riverside” and “Auld Lang Syne.”

The traditional “Auld Lang Syne” appeared again in the following “Take Cover,” which also teased Phish’s “Possum” for good measure.

Later, GSBG’s third frame ended with “Leap Year” before mandolinist Paul Hoffman and guitarist Dave Bruzza shared a single mic for an encore of the Laverne & Shirley theme (the ’70s sitcom famously took place in Milwaukee).

The show ended with one of the band’s new live favorites off 2019’s All For Money, “What You Need,” complete with a vibraslap opener by trusted tour manager Guido Batista and a lyric change to “Happy New Year.”

“Happy New Year!” the band wrote afterwards. “Thanks to each and every one of you that made our three night run at the Riverside so incredibly special! We are so excited about what’s to come in the next decade and we can’t wait to share it with all of you!”
