On Nov. 8 and 9, Umphrey’s McGee played headlining sets at The Woodlands Fall Music & Arts Festival in their adopted hometown of Charleston, S.C. The shows were highlighted by sit-ins by frequent collaborator and Doom Flamingo vocalist Kanika Moore and singer/songwriter Arlo McKinley.

Friday night, Umphrey’s opened with “Cut the Cable,” followed swiftly by “The Triple Wide.” Late in the set, they invited Arlo McKinley of Arlo McKinley and the Lonesome Sound to the stage to sing “Dark Side of the Street,” a cut from McKinley and Lonesome Sound’s eponymous 2014 release. Additionally, Nick Blasky of Ray’s Music Exchange and Umphrey’s side project The Omega Moos joined the band on drums for the cover.

The second set opened with “Attachments” and was highlighted by the closing segment, in which “All In Time” led into a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “The Song Remains The Same.”

Saturday’s first set was a flow-filled affair, including a “2×2” > “Much Obliged” > “2×2” sandwich. To close the set, the band invited Kanika Moore, Doom Flamingo vocalist and frequent Umphrey’s collaborator, to provide vocals for their mash-up of “The Triple Wide,” “Highway to Hell” by AC/DC and “Electric Avenue” by Eddy Grant (entitled “Electric Avenue to Hell”). The mash-up, which debuted at Umphrey’s 2013 Halloween gig, has only been played four times (including this show), and was last heard on July 2, 2017 at Red Rocks, a gap of 214 shows. The second set was bookended by “JaJunk,” and featured a duo of sprawling jams in “Remind Me” and “Higgins.”
