On Nov. 6, at Nassau Coliseum, Dead & Company fans watched a tie-dye banner rise into the rafters honoring the the Grateful Dead’s long history at the venue as well as the band’s ongoing legacy embodied in Dead & Company.
The unannounced ceremony came in the midst of setbreak, and the number emblazoned on the banner – 44 – includes the Grateful Dead’s 42 official shows at the venue as well as this month’s two Dead & Company shows. (Interestingly, the banner did not count the core four’s April 2009 performance as The Dead at the venue.)
Looking at the Nov. 6 setlist, musical highlights included an opening “Feel Like A Stranger” and a classic “Help”> “Slip”> “Franklin’s” trio, as well as an exploratory, second set “Dark Star” which made its way in and out of John Coltrane’s “A Love Surpreme.”
Dead & Company’s Fall Fun Run will continue on Nov. 8 and 9 at the Hampton Coliseum.
Watch each set opener via nugs.tv as well as a clip of the banner getting hoisted to the rafters below:

November 8, 2019 at 8:18 pmWell, I guess all it takes to write a concert review for this site is to “look at the setlist” and imagine what the musical highlights were.

November 9, 2019 at 12:10 pmPlus you can make up all the nods, tributes and other coincidences you like and no one can challenge you. Really poor group of unpaid interns of late, these youngsters ain’t spending their own dime to get to the show to review this bad nostalgia act…

November 8, 2019 at 10:16 amOn another positive note about the show, you may have noticed that Jeff was kind enough to wear the purple ribbon, inspiration, move me brightly Stealie T-shirt in honor of our dear friend Mark who recently passed away from pancreatic cancer – the encore choice of knockin on heavens door was not a coincidence!! – If you attended any GD related music event over the past 4 years, you may have seen the shirts and the flags waving wide and high. We did this in support of Mark, a long time deadhead , great husband, son, brother, uncle and friend anyone could have. His journey may have ended on this earth but we will carry his spirit of kindness everywhere we go in this community. If you see us along the way, please say hello.

November 8, 2019 at 9:34 amWho’s losing sleep? Who thinks it’s an injustice? Just pointing out the ridiculousness and silliness of the situation. One of the reasons there is an option to post comments is to point things out.

November 7, 2019 at 3:52 pmEven AYE agree with this cynicism found herein. If they want to hoist a banner (which IS really cool) *And they want to put the two words ‘Grateful”, and ‘Dead’ together, then fine, but just number the Grateful Dead shows played @ Nassau Coliseum. (sans The Other Ones, sans The Dead, sans Furthur, sans Rat Dog sans even, JGB).

Have to say....
November 7, 2019 at 11:43 amThey were right not to include shows with core four and shouldn’t count dead and co, not GD without JG.
