Greensky Bluegrass embraced Throwback Thursday for their Halloween performance at the Chicago Theatre on Thursday night, offering a set full of ’80s tunes—including some debut covers—while dressed in appropriate attire like big, frizzed-out hair and a mohawk.
The group opened up the night with Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark” and Genesis’ “Land of Confusion” before their first debut of the night, Madonna’s “Borderline.” Next up was their staple cover of Dire Straits’ “Money for Nothing,” followed by another debut, the Waylon Jennings-penned Dukes of Hazard theme, “Good Ol’ Boys.” After a version of the Traveling Wilburys’ “Handle With Care,” Greensky jumped into a seamless run of U2’s “Where the Streets Have No Name,” Bob Marley’s “Could You Be Loved” and Survivor’s Rocky classic “Eye of the Tiger” before dipping back in the Marley tune. Finally, Greensky closed their first of two covers sets with a final debut, Bon Jovi’s iconic “You Give Love a Bad Name.”
GSBG’s second half also included a batch of ’80s debuts from Top Gun‘s “Danger Zone” theme to The Breakfast Club‘s “Don’t You “Forger About Me.” They closed the evening with a pairing of “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” and “When Doves Cry” followed by their own “Pas My Prime.”
Check out the setlist below, along with some fan-shot footage from the evening. Greensky continue their fall tour tonight at the Uptown Theater in Kansas, MO.
