“I’m here to share a little story about an assorted lot of individuals all tuned into the same wavelength,” Bill Walton says in the trailer for Fire On The Mountain, a new action sports film created in conjunction with Grateful Dead HQ and Teton Gravity Research.
“Just as the Grateful Dead did not fit their music into an established category, this short film finds a cast of some of the world’s best athletes on an improvisational journey of skiing, snowboarding, surfing and music, complete with a soundtrack comprised of only Grateful Dead music,” reads a press release.
Wearing illuminated skeleton jumpsuits, the film’s lineup of action stars include snowboarders Jeremy Jones, Danny Davis and Kimmy Fasani, as well as famed surfer Rob Machado and skiers Michelle Parker and Chris Benchetler. (Benchetler also conceptualized the film, and served as director.)
As previously mentioned, longtime Grateful Dead disciple Bill Walton serves as the narrator of Fire On The Mountain, and GD legacy manager/archivist David Lemieux oversaw the film’s music.
“This project is one of the coolest things that I have ever been involved with, and it validates my criteria for why I do things—people, passion, and purpose. I live on the edge, and beyond. Fire On The Mountain takes this notion to incalculable heights and spectacular places,” Walton said of the film.
Fire On The Mountain will be released via streaming on Dec. 13, and screenings will take place in various cities from Nov. 4 to Dec. 14.

October 19, 2019 at 11:04 pmI’m 100% in the camp of spreading the good word. Growing the penetration and experience of the Dead’s X Factor is likely more joyously important and powerful than is widely acknowledged. Let it shine shine shine….

October 18, 2019 at 2:42 pmI’ll add to this if you spend anytime on just about any hill you know there’s a bunch of us out there shredding . I’m not a surfer but I’m sure it’s the same.

October 17, 2019 at 6:17 pmWhen did Grateful Dead Productions become Grateful Dead Head Quarters?

October 17, 2019 at 4:25 pmPuh-leeeease Douggie-Dude. As much as I don’t wish to defend nor support Jill and evil widder Koons in any way, it’s not like they sold their soul to the next Avatar or Marvel movie for gazillions. This doc on snowboarding or surfing or whatever the hell it is won’t make a penny, pal. Not like they’re out buying harry Winston Jewels off of this, or anything else, Douggie Jones.
