Bonny Light Horseman, the recently formed trio featuring Anaïs Mitchell, Fruit Bats’ Eric D. Johnson and guitarist/producer Josh Kaufman, have announced that their self-titled debut album will be released Jan. 24 via 37d03d Records.

The project teams the three musicians in modern folk renditions of traditional songs along with original material, and their debut effort also features guests like The National’s Aaron Dessner, Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, Lisa Hannigan, This is the Kit’s Kate Stables and more, plus bassist/saxophonist Michael Lewis and drummer JT Bates.

Bonny Light Horseman have shared a single from the record, “Deep in Love,” which the group describes as “a Fruit Bats sketch, until Kaufman recognized its uncanny (and unplanned) similarity to a traditional tune by that name (it shares some lyrics with ‘Waly Waly’ / ‘The Water Is Wide’). What you hear is the first and only take of the song, recorded in the wee hours of a midwinter’s night at Dreamland Studio in Woodstock, NY.” Listen below.

The band also announced their first headlining U.S. tour. See those dates below, and pre-order Bonny Light Horseman here.
