This past weekend, Railroad Earth headlined two nights of the Hillberry Harvest Moon Festival, welcoming multiple guests and honoring the memory of late band member Andy Goessling in the process.

On Saturday evening, RRE were joined by two members of Yonder Mountain String Band, starting with a first-set-closing run of “Bird in a House” with Allie Kral guesting on fiddle. The band then followed that up with a second-set collaboration with mandolinist Jake Joliff, who joined for “Stillwater Getaway” and “Warhead Boogie.” Railroad Earth were also once again augmented by the talents of keyboardist Matt Slocum and multi-instrumentalist Mike Robinson.

The additions of Slocum and Robinson have been a familiar sight at Railroad Earth shows in the past year following the death of banjoist/multi-instrumentalist Goessling, who passed on Oct. 12, 2018, after a battle with cancer. RRE honored the anniversary of their friend and bandmate’s passing all weekend, and specifically with a run of “Shockenaw Mountain Breakdown” in the second set on Sunday. The group also welcomed banjoist Kyle Tuttle for “Farewell to Isinglass” and “Hard Livin'” later in the set.
