Umphrey’s McGee’s “Hindsight 2020” winter tour is set to kick off in January, but the band is stoking excitement for the outing by adding a few opening acts.
The New Deal will play on seven shows between Jan. 23 and Feb. 2. And, later, both Billy Strings and The Empire Strikes Brass will join the bill for UM’s two-night stint at Asheville’s ExploreAsheville.com Arena.

This is not that
October 10, 2019 at 11:20 amI concur on opening bands, opportunity and so on. This is not that they wouldn’t fill some of these venues with out the opener. This is more to akin to a co headlining tour while UM try’s to stay relevant.
Yes, but.....
October 10, 2019 at 10:48 amI applaud both. They like intimacy of small venues. Better than trying to play somewhere too large they cannot sell out and loose the audience vibe. They are also repaying all of the times they were invited to open for a larger act to help build their notoriety. It’s being thankful and thoughtful for their success. Many openers will never achieve the success of the headliners, but, when they do, it is usually because another band believed in them and gave them a shot. I saw a handful of bands as openers that are now doing great.
A return to Martyrs
