Next month, famed New Orleans venue Tipitina’s and legendary Meters bassist George Porter Jr. will team up for a tribute to the late, great Crescent City icon Dr. John, with Porter as musical director leading an all-star cast of local musicians, including Dumpstaphunk keyboardist Ivan Neville, pianist Jon Cleary, Galactic drummer Stanton Moore, guitarists Anders Osborne and Walter “Wolfman” Washington, and many more.

Porter’s house band for the tribute, set for the day before Thanksgiving on Nov. 27, will comprise keyboardist John “Papa” Gros, drummer Herlin Riley, percussionist Alfred “Uganda” Roberts, guitarist John Fohl, saxophonists Tony DaGradi and Brad Walker, trumpeter Tracy Griffin, and vocalists Theresa Andersson and Jolynda “Kiki” Chapman.

Also on the lineup are New Orleans staples Deacon John and Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, plus trumpeter (and brother of Trombone Shorty) James Andrews, singer/harmonica player Johnny Sansone, and pianists David Torkanowsky, Tom McDermott and Josh Paxton.

Tickets and more information on the Tipitina’s Tribute to Dr. John can be found here. A portion of the event’s proceeds will go to the New Orleans Musicians’ Clinic.
