On Friday evening, Rod Stewart’s performance at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles featured a very special encore in which the British vocalist welcomed his old bandmate, guitar icon Jeff Beck, for five tunes to close out the evening.
Stewart’s own set featured cuts from his solo career and from his Faces work with favorites like “Maggie May” and “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?,” plus numerous covers like Fleetwood Mac’s “Go Your Own Way,” Sam Cooke’s “Twistin’ the Night Away” and “Having a Party,” Van Morrison’s “Have I Told You Lately” and more.
For Friday’s extended encore, Beck emerged to join Stewart’s band, marking the first time the former Jeff Beck Group collaborators shared the stage in a decade, according to Ultimate Classic Rock. The duo first got together in Beck’s namesake outfit back in 1967 until Stewart left the band after two studio albums. Reuniting on Friday in LA, the two musicians ran through covers of Willie Dixon’s “I Ain’t Superstitious,” Bonnie Dobson’s (and Grateful Dead staple) “Morning Dew” and the Impressions’ “People Get Ready” before closing with two Jeff Beck Group tunes, “Rock My Plimsoul” and “Blues Deluxe,” both from JBG’s 1967 debut album, Truth.
Check out the full setlist below, along with some fan-shot video of the collaboration.

October 1, 2019 at 12:03 pmI’ve had some fun debates over the years…if you listen to the early Beck/Stewart collaborations, you can make a STRONG argument that the general approach they had to playing blues rock was the basic Led Zeppelin formula utilized a couple years later. Just sayin…

September 30, 2019 at 12:22 pmJust get on with the FACES reunion already. It’s been badied about for 20 years. Pluck Ronnie Wood, who is available, and let’s rip a nostalgic Faces Tour. I’d be there with bells on. Mandolin Wind, Bad ‘n’ Ruin, Ooh La La, Every picture Tells a Story, (some Rod 70’s solo tunes) many, many more, with some great covers thrown in, Let’s go: Ronnie and Rod. Lane and McLagan are dead, but you could still round out a good band.
