Next week, Los Angeles venue The Regent Theatre will host a benefit concert in memory of late guitarist Neal Casal, who took his own life late last month. The event will be headlined by one of Casal’s former bands, Beachwood Sparks, and will raise money for both MusiCares as well as THERAsurf.
Also set to play the tribute, dubbed Sweeten the Distance: A Concert to Celebrate Neal Casal, are Grateful Shred, Jonathan Wilson, The Mattson 2, GospelbacH, Vetiver’s Andy Cabic, Johnathan Rice, Jon Graboff & Leslie Stevens, Mapache, Jesse Aycock & Lauren Barth, Blake Mills, Victoria Williams, Don Heffington, Muddy Stardust and Rachel Dean, along with more special guests.
Sweeten the Distance will take place at the Regent Sept. 30. Tickets and more information can be found here.
A similar benefit concert in Casal’s memory, also supporting MusiCares, will take place this Wednesday, Sept. 25, at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY, with appearances from Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Beachwood Sparks, Circles Around the Sun, Eric Krasno, Joe Russo plus his Almost Dead bandmates Dave Dreiwitz, Tom Hamilton and Scott Metzger, Widespread Panic’s Dave Schools and Duane Trucks, Mapache and many more. The Relix Channel will be providing a free livestream of that show Wednesday night.
