The first two episodes of the new music documentary podcast Long May They Run launch today. Season one of the podcast, which will focus on iconic touring bands, is devoted to Phish. The initial two episodes of the 10 episode season (new episodes will be released on Wednesdays) explore Phish’s festival legacy, drawing on interviews with Trey Anastasio, Page McConnell, original Phish manager John Paluska, Russ Bennett, Lars Fisk, Danny Clinch, “first fan” Amy Skelton, the creators of Bonnaroo and Gov Ball, Newport Folk executive producer Jay Sweet and many others. Long May They Run is written and hosted by Relix Editor-in-Chief Dean Budnick.

The show’s soundtrack features a take on the Miles Davis composition “Right Off” from his album A Tribute To Jack Johnson, which appeared on our Relix 44 list. This version of the song was performed by The String Cheese Incident’s Kyle Hollingsworth, who assembled an ensemble that also features Dave Watts and Garrett Sayers from The Motet and Umphrey’s McGee guitarist Jake Cinninger.

Hollingsworth tells Relix, “Well this was a fun one…Dean Budnick asked me to put together a band and cover Miles Davis’ song, ‘Right Off’ for his new podcast. The original is an epic journey. I pulled together Dave Watts and Garret Sayers from The Motet, and Dean grabbed Jake Cinninger from Umphrey’s McGee. We did a quick rendition, trying to capture the vibe and feel of the tune. It was a blast to get to play music with my friends!”
