Phish at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, 2017

UPDATE: Phish have announced that both camping and vending at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park have been cancelled for Labor Day weekend. “We are sorry to say that there will be no overnight camping allowed for this year’s shows,” the band writes. “All camping tickets and RV tickets (and associated service charges) will be automatically refunded within the next few days. We recognize the tremendous inconvenience this may cause for those who had planned on camping. Our friends at CID have created a special portal with listings of nearby hotels including some with discounted weekend rates for Phish fans.”

Over the last few weeks, Phish fans have been wondering how Colorado’s bizarre spat of plague-infected prairie dogs will affect their camping arrangements at Phish’s Labor Day run at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

In an August 19 meeting, the Commerce City Council officially ruled that the event will go on, but with no vendors and limited camping, noting how there is a concern that dirt areas of the campground could contain plague-infected fleas.

“The area where a lot of the Phish participants will normally be camping they won’t be allowed to be camping,” Mayor Sean Ford says, adding that “Shakedown Alley” will not be happening either. (Ed. Note: The mayor is obviously referring to Shakedown Street, however he is correct when he describes it as the place where fans “sell grilled cheese sandwiches.”)

“We have an event coming up, and the camping area is not going to be there, but there is still going to be a lot of people coming into this community who are going to want to set up a tent somewhere,” he concludes, noting that law enforcement will be on alert in the surrounding areas to prevent unlawful camping.

“I just wanted to lay that out… No Shakedown Alley and limited camping because of the dirt lots and the infected fleas,” Ford says before closing the issue.
