The National continued their batch of European dates with the first of two shows at Kelvingrove Park in Glasgow, Scotland, on Tuesday evening, and the band welcomed local singer-songwriter and CHVRCHES frontwoman Lauren Mayberry to honor the late Scottish musician Scott Hutchison, the former leader of indie group Frightened Rabbit who passed away in the spring of 2018 from an apparent suicide.

As JamBase reports, Mayberry first came out during The National’s set to help out with the band’s original “I Need My Girl” off their 2013 album, Trouble Will Find Me, then remained on stage for Frightened Rabbit’s “My Backwards Walk,” a cut from the group’s 2008 effort, Midnight Organ Fight, and a prim example of Hutchison’s introspective and emotionally honest songwriting, which translated to The National’s sparse and solemn cover of the tune.

Check out the setlist and a fan-shot video of the collaboration below. The National return to the Kelvingrove Park stage tonight.
