Greensky Bluegrass brought their summer tour to Baltimore on Thursday evening for a show at MECU Pavilion, and the band marked the occasion, which happened to fall on what would have been the 77th birthday of Jerry Garcia, with an encore filled with Grateful Dead tunes and collaborations with the opening act, Baltimore’s own Cris Jacobs Band.

“A lot of birthdays today,” Greensky dobro player began as the bands settled in for last night’s encore. “And one of those people is a guy named Jerry Garcia. We’re gonna throw some love in that direction if that’s cool with y’all.”

The two groups then ran through three Dead favorites—with Greensky guitarist Dave Bruzza switching to drums—including the Greensky Bluegrass debuts of “Wharf Rat” and “Scarlet Begonias,” followed by a finale singalong of “Fire on the Mountain.”
