The next installment of the Grateful Dead’s Dave’s Pick archival concert series will feature the band’s show from December 3, 1979, at the Uptown Theatre in Chicago.

As Dead archivist David Lemieux notes, the show features keyboardist Brent Mydland, who joined up with the band just months before in the spring of ’79. Highlights of the night include first-set renditions of Dead favorites like “Brown-Eyed Women,” “Ramble On Rose,” “Althea” and “The Music Never Stopped,” plus “Scarlet Begonias”> “Fire on the Mountain,” “Lost Sailor”> “Saint of Circumstance,” “Truckin'” and “Johnny B. Goode” later in the show.

Dave’s Picks Vol. 31, which will be limited to 20,000 numbered copies, also includes selections of “Estimated Prophet”> “Franklin’s Tower” and a jam from the Dead’s 12/4/79 performance at the Chicago venue. Vol 31 was mastered from Dan Healy’s recordings by David Glasser at Airshow Mastering.
