Phish performed their second of two nights at the intimate Mohegan Sun Arena on Wednesday night, using rarities like “Dogs Stole Things,” “Party Time” and “Kung” to further spice up a jam-heavy evening in Connecticut.

The band kicked things off with a chaotic “Buried Alive,” before laying down the funk on “Cavern.”

The aforementioned “Dogs Stole Things” came next, marking the song’s first appearance since the final night of the band’s Baker’s Dozen residency (8/6/2017).

From there, the band offered stand alone versions of Joy cut “Sugar Shack,” old-school favorite “Stash” and Fuego closer “Wingsuit.”

The first substantial jam of the evening came with a pairing of “Limb By Limb”> “Gumbo,” however, Phish didn’t linger on their throwback material for long, as they soon offered the Kasvot Växt tune “Stray Dog” and fellow 3.0 standby “Steam.”

To give the fans something to smile about at setbreak, Phish closed the first half with a rowdy “David Bowie.”

Set two was certainly a party with an opening “Party Time” (last played: 12/29/2018), and the band moved swiftly through “Chalk Dust Torture”> “Ruby Waves”> “Seven Below.”

That “Ruby Waves” (originally debuted as a part of Trey Anastasio’s Ghosts of the Forest project) would appear later, surprising listeners midway through a heavy “Piper” jam, that would eventually find Big Boat‘s “I Always Wanted It This Way” and a final Ghosts of the Forest cut “Drift While You’re Sleeping.”

The band’s lengthy encore to close their Mohegan Sun outing was one of the most talked-about moments of the evening, as Phish started mellow with “Bouncing Around the Room” and moved into what fans regard as their more “evil” material with a wailing “Saw It Again.”

The “Saw It Again” got extra intense with elements of “Kung” thrown in; “Kung” was last played by Phish during their Mexican destination event on February 23, 2019, served in a similar fashion within a “Martian Monster” jam.

Finally, Phish went for a blissful jam in a closing “Slave To The Traffic Light.”

Phish tour continues this weekend with a three-night run at Wisconsin’s Alpine Valley Music Theatre from July 12-14.
