Today, Brooklyn Bowl announces The Bowlive Story, a two-part documentary mini-series chronicling the history of one of venue’s longest running residencies, Bowlive, featuring jazz/funk trio Soulive. The video series comes as Brooklyn Bowl prepares for the eighth installment of Bowlive, which kicks off this Thursday, July 11, and will serve as the centerpiece for the venue’s celebration of 10 years since its opening on July 7, 2009.

The Bowlive Story features interviews with each member of Soulive—guitarist Eric Krasno, drummer Alan Evans and keyboardist Neal Evans—as well as Brooklyn Bowl founders Peter Shapiro and Charley Ryan. The mini-series provides an in-depth look at the 10-year history of Brooklyn Bowl and the story behind one of Brooklyn’s most unique music traditions.

This month’s Bowlive VIII will feature six nights of music over two weekends, with new special guests each evening, including keyboardist Ivan Neville (Dumpstaphunk) on Thursday, July 11; Oteil Burbridge (Dead & Company) on Friday, July 12; guitarist John Scofield on Saturday, July 13; guitarist Marcus King on Thursday, July 18; bassist George Porter Jr. (The Meters) on Friday, July 19; and saxophonist Sam Kininger (a former member of frequent Soulive collaborators The Shady Horns) on Saturday, July 20. Along with the scheduled guests, each night is expected to feature surprise appearances, as is the Bowlive tradition.

Since the first Bowlive in 2010, Soulive have welcomed a slew of musicians to the Brooklyn Bowl stage during their residencies, including Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, members of Lettuce, Joe Russo, Marco Benevento, Karl Denson, Questlove, Chris Robinson, Luther and Cody Dickinson, Bernie Worrell, Talib Kweli, Anders Osborne, GRiZ, Lee Fields, Los Lobos’ David Hidalgo, Run-DMC’s Darryl McDaniels, Nicki Bluhm, Steve Kimock, Citizen Cope, Matisyahu and more.

The Bowlive Story, directed by Relix Video Director Will Schwerd, will be released in two parts (on Brooklyn Bowl’s Facebook and The Relix Channel on YouTube) over the following dates:

Part I: “The Genesis” Wednesday, July 10
Part II: “The Revue” Wednesday, July 17
