This past weekend, Tedeschi Trucks Band kicked off their annual Wheels of Soul Tour with three shows in their home state of Florida, each of which saw the band welcome guitarist Charlie Starr of tour mates Blackberry Smoke (this year’s Wheels of Soul also features Shovels & Rope), along with the introductions of some new covers into the TTB repertoire.

On Friday evening, Tedeschi Trucks Band offered a hometown show in Jacksonville, FL, at the Daily’s Place Amphitheater. As JamBase notes, the night’s setlist featured TTB’s debut of Elton John’s “Border Song,” along with Tedeschi Trucks staples like the Allman Brothers Band’s “Don’t Keep Me Wonderin'” and “Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More,” plus the band’s live debut of Leon Russell’s “Stranger in a Strange Land,” which featured a guest spot from Starr.

Starr again played on the Russell tune on Saturday night in Boca Raton during a show that also featured the John cover, plus an injection of Santana’s “Soul Sacrifice” and an encore of “Statesboro Blues” and Joe Cocker’s “Space Captain.” Sunday’s performance in St. Petersburg closed out the weekend with Starr joining TTB on the blues tune “Key to the Highway” and the band debuting their version of Bill Withers’ “I Wish You Well” (per JamBase).
