Anderson .Paak took his “Best Teef In The Game” tour to Madison Square Garden on Thursday night, marking his first headlining performance at the historic New York City venue.

After the show – which featured older material, cuts from his new record Ventura and a surprise interlude by Busta Rhymes – .Paak headed downtown to sit-in on trumpet player Maurice “Mobetta” Brown’s scheduled performance at Nublu. (Brown performs in .Paak’s Free Nationals band as well as Tedeschi Trucks Band.)

.Paak showed up about halfway through the late night/early morning set, which was almost entirely improvised. As .Paak played drums, bassist Thundercat (who opened for .Paak just a few hours prior at MSG) laid down rhythmic, jazzy basslines and even passed his bass off to other musicians in the house. Other members of the Free Nationals, like keyboardist Tnava Avant were also present.
