Joe Russo’s Almost Dead and Ghost Light guitarist Tom Hamilton was rushed to the hospital on Wednesday, after throwing out his back.

Hamilton chronicled the visibly painful experience on his Instagram Story with a healthy amount of humor, captioning a video of his ambulance ride with “Ever throw your back out THIS bad?? #ThisIs40”

Later that day, as he was wheeled out of the hospital, Hamilton shared an update with fans, saying, “I’m in a wheelchair, they’re saying I can leave. I’m on drugs, but I am in a lot, a lot, of pain. I’m sorry if this means I miss a show, but I hope everybody understands. I’ll keep you updated.”

Unfortunately, Ghost Light had to reschedule their May 9 gig in Connecticut to July 25, and in an announcement post from Hamilton himself he notes that he’s only ever had to cancel one prior performance, and the injury happened when he was traveling at an airport.

Read Hamilton’s May 9 message below.

Feel better Tom!

Hi all – Tommy here.
Yesterday at the airport my back went out in the worst way. I was laid out on the floor for hours hoping it would chill enough so I could get on the plane, but it only got worse to where I had to take an ambulance to the ER. I’m working on recovering and getting back on the road ASAP – but unfortunately we’ll have to reschedule our Ghost Light show tonight at Space Ballroom in Hamden CT. I’ve only ever missed 1 show in my career, and it was the last time my back went out like this during my BP days (anyone remember the Jillian’s show in Albany where I had to play sitting down?) – I hate nothing more than having to miss this show, but I promise we’ll make it up you.

Thank you so much for your support and understanding
