After splitting with drummer Cameron LaForest in April, Spafford invited former drummer Nick Tkachyk, back into the fold.

The Arizona-based quartet’s May 4 gig at the New Orleans Civic Theater served as Tkachyk’s first Spafford gig since 2017, and the band kept the mood light, with an opening cover of Scissor Sisters’ “Take Your Mama.”

Highlights of the single set included a 28-minute “Electric Taco Stand,” complete with segues in and out of John Coltrane’s “Impressions,” as well as a version of newer tune “Comfortable,” which the band debuted in February.

The set ended with a special appearance by Umphrey’s McGee mainstay Joel Cummins who added keys to Spafford’s For Amusement Only standout “Leave The Light On.”

Spafford’s summer tour kicks off on May 22 in Minneapolis. Visit their official website for more information.
