This August, Rhino Records will release a massive box set of music and memorabilia celebrating the 50th anniversary of the original Woodstock festival, including recordings of nearly every song (all but three) played at the legendary 1969 gathering, from artists like Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, the Grateful Dead, The Who, The Band, Santana, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Jefferson Airplane, Joe Cocker, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Joan Baez and many more.
Woodstock – Back to the Garden: The Definitive 50th Anniversary Archive will include 38 CDs comprising 432 tracks, over half of which are previously unreleased recordings, plus a hardcover Woodstock book by original festival promoter Michael Lang, replicas of the original Woodstock program and posters, essays, photo prints, a guitar strap and more.
The ambitious collection is limited to 1,969 individually numbered copies but will also be available in smaller sets, including a pared-down vinyl LP edition.
See the full setlist and pre-order the box set here, and check out a trailer for the collection below.

May 9, 2019 at 4:15 pmMaybe the best idea for Woodstock 50 would be to set up an amazing sound and video system and charge a nominal fee to chill for a weekend at WG with as much video and audio that is available from the original Woodstock playing. Have a huge Shakedown vending area, Woodstock related activities such as social activist tables and maybe small stages around the site with smaller acts, known and unknown, playing while peops meander around enjoying the scene… allow peops to camp, or just show up for the day. Save the millions being reserved for Jay-Z, Miley, etc and spread the wealth to struggling musicians. Maybe encourage surprise guest collaborations… Santana sit-ins, Fogerty sit-ins, etc…

May 9, 2019 at 11:11 amThe musical performance and film rights is ALL Mr. Lang got from Woodstock (not much in gate proceeds) hence the ongoing saga with the original site and use of the name “Woodstock”. Can’t blame him for milking it for all its worth, jew or no jew. I can’t imagine so much interest in the music after all these years except the few alive that went, hence the “limited” production.

May 9, 2019 at 8:41 amI have almost all of this downloaded already. Other than Richie Havens most of the first day is pretty weak. It definitely is not even an above average Dead show as they have stated. Janis Joplin was amazing and the Record Store Day 2LP set is a must have. CCR, CSNY,and The Band woukd be cool releases in their entirety. Jimi Hendrix played an amazing set at 9AM Monday morning, so on the LP version they put a goofy sha na na song and zero Hendrix. Hard pass. And why does anybody give a shit about Langs religion. Some need to acquire a life.

May 9, 2019 at 7:33 amHitler JR As if Lang owns the record company or all the bands that had to give permission to release this stuff. For decades the DEAD refuse to allow any of their set to be released on CD or on any video. What does Lang’s religion have to do with it? Think no Christians and people of other religions are involved in this endeavor? Maybe the artist doing the cover is a Muslim? Somebody is forced to buy it? A sad insignificant person you are.
