The String Cheese Incident played their second show at New Orleans’ Mardi Gras World on Saturday May 4, celebrating the penultimate night on the city’s famed Jazz & Heritage Festival.

Friday night’s featured a sit-in was by NOLA local Anders Osborne, who joined SCI for their own “Close Your Eyes,” and the classic composition “Iko Iko.”

Saturday’s guest filled show started with keyboardist Kyle Hollingsworth joining psych-funk four-piece Pigeons Playing Ping Pong on keys for their original “F.U.,” lacing in some nice teases of Talking Heads’ “Crosseyed and Painless” to boot.

Later, SCI kicked off their first half with “On The Road,” and worked through “Eye Know Why”> “Black Clouds,” “I Want You” and “Into The Blue,” before welcoming some very special guests.

Dumpstaphunk players/New Orleans mainstays Ivan Neville, Ian Neville and Tony Hall all got on stage for a three-part romp, adding keys, bass and guitar to SCI’s “Get To You,” The Neville Brothers’ “Yellow Moon” and, SCI’s first take on The Meters’ “Fire On The Bayou” since 1998.

Set two was just as amplified, with a stand-alone “Beautiful” to start, and comprehensive jam segments like “Vertigo”> “Blueberry Koolaid” jam> “Valley of the Jig” to fill out the set. A nod to The Rolling Stones (former Jazz Fest headliners and Ivan Neville collaborators) came next with “Sympathy For The Devil”> “Howard”> “Dirty Voodoo” jam> “Howard,” and SCI closed the set with “Let’s Go Outside.”

The band encored their NOLA run with fan favorite “Jellyfish” which segued nicely into “Sittin’ On Top of the World.”
