Soul legend Mavis Staples has shared “Anytime,” a new tune off her forthcoming album We Get By.
“I’m a fighter, I’m a lover, there ain’t no other way,” Staples sings with her signature croon. We Get By will be released on May 10 via ANTI-. It will be Staples’ 12th studio album, and features Ben Harper as a producer and co-writer.
The cover art of We Get By features a photo by late photographer and civil rights activist Gordon Parks titled “Outside Looking In,” which was part of Parks’ photo series on segregation in Life magazine called “The Restraints: Open and Hidden.” In 2017, Staples received the Gordon Parks Foundation Award, which is given to those who continue Parks’ work today.
